Cairncross in Sweden and Livonia

In May 2019 I started getting emails from Peter Zoege von Manteuffel who lives in Germany. He sent me a .pdf document of the family tree he had found, which was in German. Peter sent me more documents, taken from a thick dictionary (800 pages!) with all the names of the officers in the Swedish army of Karl XII. (1682-1718).

Then Peter sent me the family tree that he had translated into English, I was very pleased with that. This family tree contains some abbreviations and conventions that differ from the format in all the other trees on the site. But it is such a fascinating document that I wanted to include it here virtually unaltered.

Peter's emails provide such a useful background to this whole subject that I have decided to include those here also.
